Greater Cleveland Aquarium to open January 21

(Cleveland) - The Greater Cleveland Aquarium will open its doors to the public on Saturday, January 21, 2012, with special pass holder preview days on Thursday and Friday January 19 and 20, 2012.

Individual tickets go on sale in January, but annual passes can be purchased now, and allow attendees to get a first look during the two preview says.


The $33 million dollar facility was designed and built by Marinescape New Zealand, and is located in Cleveland's historic Powerhouse, and has two sections. One featuring local freshwater fish, and the section highlighting salt water species, including sharks.

Spokesman Kayla Ott says the highlight is the giant Seat Tube where visitors can walk through the Aquarium and view the animals up close.

Ott tells Newsradio WTAM 1100, the Aquarium is the only free-standing aquarium in Ohio. It will be home to more than five thousand freshwater and saltwater fish.

The Greater Cleveland Aquarium will be open seven days a week from 10am to 6pm (closed Thanksgiving and Christmas), but hours will be extended for the opening weekend.

Admission: Adults $21.95, children (2 to 12 years old), $15.95. Discounts are available for groups of 15 or more.

Annual Passes: Adult: $50; Couple: $90; Family (2 adults and 2 children): $130; Additional Child passes can be purchased with any of these levels for $25 each.

Cleveland's 30th Annual Turkey Trot

Hey Clevelanders! Are you planning on hitting the 5 miler or 1 mile 'fun run' on Thanksgiving Day before celebrating with your friends and family? I know I am! This year will be my first Turkey Trot and I'm looking forward to the costumes, the run, and of course the beautiful city scape. Cleveland's Second Annual Prohibition Party

Tis The Season: Jump Back Ball

Fall is in full swing in Cleveland, which means the first of the social events leading up to Jump Back Ball. This Thursday (Nov. 3) Market Garden Brewery will be hosting the kick off event where you can meet other ball attendees and Partner members, sip on drink specials, and get your tickets MAJORLY discounted.
